'We Are the Communities We Serve'

“We are the communities we serve”, claims the website of Magic Johnson Enterprises – just one more motto created to publicize Magic’s self-proclaimed mission to empower diverse urban areas. But when it comes to making money, this former basketball star doesn’t seem to care how his work affects low-income communities.
In fact, Magic Johnson’s latest efforts include marketing high-cost financial services and products to low-income communities as the spokesperson for companies like Jackson Hewitt and Rent-A-Center. Not to mention that he has seemingly turned a blind eye to service workers in one of his luxury condominiums, whose families don’t have access to affordable healthcare.
Are these the types of enterprises Magic Johnson honestly believes will revitalize underserved communities? To us, it seems like he’s just taking money from working people to put it in the pockets of the rich.
Working people are tired of seeing this kind of Magic trick.
